Sometimes, an error dialog will appear in InSpec with the following message.

Solution

The following article describes a way of diagnosing issues relating to camera issues: Diagnosing And Reporting Camera Issues. It is recommended to follow these steps before proceeding with diagnosing the hardware issue.

Here are some tools recommended to be installed prior to troubleshooting the camera issue.

Note

The IC Capture software may indicate that the camera’s driver is out of date. This is expected. Do not install any driver not provided with InSpec. Installing drivers not provided with InSpec may cause further problems.

Spare parts to be prepared:

  • USB 3.0 cable: micro-B to USB-A (0.5m and 2m) / type-B to type-A 2.0m

  • Camera

  • Zoom breakout board

  • Logic board

The diagram below shows the cable connection from the camera through the computer.

Before proceeding, be sure to close InSpec and power off the machine.

  1. Remove the machine Z cover

Unplug the short cable
  1. Find cable USB-A #1 that connects the camera with the zoom

  2. Unplug

  • Yes, send it to us.
  • No, are you able to trigger the camera? This could be done by simply placing a sample on the stage and using a flashlight to illuminate.

In case you can’t establish a connection to the camera, make sure you don’t use a third party anti-virus software or disable it. Some software is blocking the USB camera stream which can be unblocked by the IT department.

  • If there is no device being detected, you may need to unplug/re-plug #1 to your testing PC or laptop, otherwise, this might be a bad cable or camera.
  • If you can see the USB 3 camera as shown below, skip this section.

  • Find cable USB-A #2 as shown from the image below that connects the zoom breakout board with the mainboard.

  • Unplug #2 from the mainboard and plug into your testing PC or laptop.

  • Power on the machine. (Ensure the machine is not in stand by mode)

  • Repeat step 3 above. Is the camera detected?

  • YES, skip this step.
  • NO, this may be a defective USB cable #2 but might also be the zoom breakout board.
