  1. Remove all covers to be able to access the encoder readhead of the corresponding axis.

  2. Make sure that the stage and the encoder readhead is positioned at the center of its travel.

  3. Loosen the two screws that hold secure the readhead in placeas well as the two screws that secure the encoder scale.

  4. Place the orange spacer between readhead and encoder scale as shown in the image below:

  5. Push readhead up against the spacer and the encoder scale and tighten the two readhead screws. Instead of #5 the instruction should be: Push down the encoder so that the readhead is as far down as possible. While maintaining downward pressure, tighten the screw of the readhead. Try to maintain the readhead centered in the slots.

  6. Remove the spacer, move stage to the left end of the travel and check the gap by placing the spacer between readhead and scale.

  7. Loosen the screw (the scale screws should already be loose at this point, both of them on each side) that holds the encoder scale on the corresponding side of the travel in place.

  8. Push the encoder scale down against the spacer and the readhead while tightening the screw again
A T-handle can be used to push the scale down by sliding it in into the hole on the side of the scale like shown in the image below:

  9. Repeat steps 6, 7 and 8 on the other end of the travel.

  10. A new machine calibration should be performed after replacing or realigning an ecoderencoder.
