Solution

The following article describes a way of diagnosing issues relating to camera issues: Diagnosing And Reporting Camera Issues. It is recommended to follow these steps before proceeding with diagnosing the hardware issue.

Diagnosing Hardware Issue

Here are some tools recommended to be installed prior to troubleshooting the camera issue.

The IC Capture software may indicate that the camera’s driver is out of date. This is expected. Do not install any driver not provided with InSpec. Installing drivers not provided with InSpec may cause further problems.

The diagram below shows the cable connection from the camera through the computer.

  1. Remove the machine Z cover

  2. Find cable USB-A #1 that connects the camera with the zoom breakout board attached on the left side of the Vertex Z beam. See the picture on the right.

  3. Unplug #1 and plug it into your testing PC or laptop that has already installed the apps mentioned above.

  4. Open IC Capture and the dialogue that pops up will show the active device.

  1. If there is no device being detected, you may need to unplug/re-plug #1 to your testing PC or laptop, otherwise, this might be a bad cable or camera.
  2. If you can see the USB 3 camera as shown below, skip this section.

  • Find cable USB-A #2 as shown from the image below that connects the zoom breakout board with the mainboard.

  • Unplug #2 from the mainboard and plug into your testing PC or laptop.

  • Power on the machine. (Ensure the machine is not in stand by mode)

  • Repeat step 3 above. Is the camera detected?

  1. YES, skip this step.
  1. NO, this may be a defective USB cable #2 but might also be the zoom breakout board.
  • Unplug cable USB-A #3 from the computer and re-plug it back in or try another USB port.

  • Repeat step 3 above. Is the camera detected?
