Converting Measurement Programs Between Machine Generations

Converting Measurement Programs Between Machine Generations

This covers converting an InSpec program (IWP) for Older Machine Models running InSpec Classic 2.97.10 to Current Machine Models running InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater.

Prerequisites:

The IWP must run properly on a Older Machine Models with a lights calibration on InSpec Classic 2.97.10. IWPs written on machines without lights calibrations cannot be converted directly. See the section on dynamic lights migration to handle this case. Additionally, IWPs using the System Pattern feature in InSpec Classic 2.97.10 cannot be converted automatically.

The Current Machine Models model must have had optics and lights calibrations run with InSpec Classic 2.103 or later. If unsure, run the optics and lights calibration again with InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater.

Steps:

  1. Ensure the IWP is properly running on InSpec Classic 2.97.10 on a Older Machine Models model with a lights calibration.

  2. Make a copy of the IWP.

  3. Open the copy of the IWP on InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater on a Current Machine Models model with valid optics and lights calibrations run on InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater.

  4. Run the program. Ideally, few, if any manual adjustments should need to be made to make the program run to completion.

  5. If the program runs to completion, it must be saved to complete the conversion.

  6. If the program fails to run due to lights conversion issues, see the section on dynamic lights migration.

Dynamic Lights Migration

Starting in InSpec Classic 2.106, a dynamic lights migration option is available, which helps convert IWPs whose lights fail to convert properly using the automatic upgrade.

Prerequisites:

The IWP must run properly on some machine.

We recommend attempting the automatic upgrade paths given above prior to attempting dynamic lights migration.

Preparing an IWP for Dynamic Lights Migration:

If the IWP was saved with InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater, it is already ready for use. Otherwise, some preparation is required.

  1. Ensure the IWP is properly running on the originating InSpec Classic version on some machine, a Older Machine Models or Current Machine Models model.

  2. Make a copy of the IWP.

  3. Open the copy of the IWP on InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater on the same machine used in step 1. Do not run any calibrations on the new version of InSpec Classic.

  4. Run the program. The program should run to completion.

  5. Save the program to write out the data required for dynamic lights migrations.

  6. If the machine is a Current Machine Models, InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater is the recommended version of InSpec. If it is a Older Machine Models, reinstall InSpec Classic 2.97.10.

Using Dynamic Lights Migration:

When a program fails due to lighting that is too dim or too bright, dynamic lights migration can automate the correction of lights settings so long as the IWP was saved with InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater, either originally, or via the preparation procedure given above.

  1. Open the IWP on InSpec Classic 2.106 or greater.

  2. Select Migrate Lights Settings from the Tools menu.

  3. Proceed through the wizard.

  4. InSpec will compare the perceived lighting of the snapshots with the programmed lighting. If it is different, InSpec Classic will attempt to automatically adjust the brightness of the lights to match the programmed lighting.

  5. When the program finishes, save the IWP to accept the migrated lights settings. Future runs of the same IWP on the same machine will work without intervention.
