Level the Vertex X and Y Stages
The following procedure should be performed by an authorized Micro-Vu dealer on a Vertex 261, 341 or 342.
After realigning the drive following the steps in Realigning the Drive Vertex 261 - 342, level the X and Y stages using a depth gauge.
To perform these steps the machine should be off or in standby.
Place the end of the depth gauge rod on the machined surface on the base of the machine, and the base of the depth gauge on the Y axis linear bearings surface as displayed in the image below. Proceed to zero the depth gauge.
2. Position the depth gauge as described in step 1, on the other end of the X stage as shown in the image below:
3. Using a flat drive screw adjust the X stage jacking screw -circled in red in the image below- until the depth gauge measures zero. Please note that a small jacking screw adjustment can change the level of your stage dramatically.
4. Loosen the linear bearing pads screws using a 2.5 mm hex key. Push the X stage towards the back of the machine and re-tighten the linear bearing pads while pushing the stage.
Do not slide the X stage on its rails while the pads are loose, this will missalign the bearing pads and the stage.
5. Postion the depth gauge rod on the Y axis linear bearings surface, and the depth guage base on the Y stage surface as shown in the following image. Proceed to zero the depth gauge.
6. Position the depth gauge as described in step 5, on the other end of the Y stage as shown in the image below:
7. Using a flat drive screw adjust the Y stage jacking screw -circled in red in the image below- until the depth gauge measures zero.
8. Loosen the linear bearing pads screws using a 2.5 mm hex key. Press the front status button so the machine is operational (green LED). Push the Y stage towards the left side of the machine (if looking at the machine from the front) and re-tighten the linear bearing pads while pushing the stage.
9. Tighten linear bearing pad screws in the order shown in the video below
