Disable USB Selective Suspend

Disable USB Selective Suspend

USB Selective Suspend is a energy-saving feature in Windows that automatically powers down USB devices when they are not in use. It helps conserve battery life on laptops and tablets, but can sometimes cause issues with certain peripherals. Newer PC models may have more aggressive energy-saving configurations.

On some hardware/OS configurations, this energy-saving setting may conflict with InSpec or InSpec Classic’s requirement of continuous connection to the machine and may cause unwanted behavior or errors.

Disable USB Selective Suspend to ensure that Windows does not power down the USB ports used to connect to your machine:

  1. Open the Control Panel by typing it into the Start menu.

  2. Select “Power Options” in the “Hardware and Sound” section.

  3. Choose “Change plan settings” next to your power plan.

  4. Click “Change advanced power settings”.

  5. Expand “USB settings” and then “USB selective suspend setting”.

  6. Set the value to “Disabled”.

  7. Click “Apply” and “OK” to save changes.

  8. Restart. Restart your PC to ensure the change has taken effect.
