This article shows how to align a component which is held by a rotary like the RSD-60 horizontal. This technique is using two Z-measurements to rotate the axis such that the flat surface is parallel to the X-Y plane of the machinecreate a program and apply the three wire method to measure threads of a screw.

The following steps give a summary of the basic workflow

  1. create system based on Closest Edge point

  2. create Closed Spline to trace perimeter of the part

  3. create system at the centroid of the part

  4. skew X or Y of system to distance between centroid and spline two lines on the thread flank

  5. create circle tangent to both lines with a diameter equal to the wire

  6. repeat step 1 and 2 with the adjacent convolution

  7. create a point at the center of both circles

  8. create a system at this point and skew to line between both circle centers

  9. repeat steps 1 and 2 for the convolution on the opposite side of the thread

  10. measure distance between opposite circles
