Zoom Initialization Failure/ Zoom Lens Stall

Solution

...

A zoom lens failure usually indicates an internal mechanical problem in the zoom cell since the zoom motor rarely fails:

  1. Check if the zoom motor attempts to spin during initialization.

  • If it attempts to spin
  1. Check the zoom lens (also known as the zoom cell).

  2. Remove the motor assembly.

  3. Spin the zoom gear and make sure it is smooth.
*If there’s even the slightest mechanical hitch or drag, it will stall the zoom lens and needs to be replaced.

  • If it does not spin

There is no current delivered to the zoom motor and the following components should be tested/replaced: Logic Board, Zoom Breakout Board and cable between these two boards.

Note

If no issues were found with the steps above, please refer to the following article to further troubleshoot the cause: Zoom Lens Gear Adjustment

Info

Micro-Vu typically sells the zoom assembly together to ensure the problem is fixed in one replacement. Please refer to the following articles for warranty, repair, and exchange policies:
