A zoom lens failure usually indicates an internal mechanical problem in the zoom cell since the zoom motor rarely fails:
Check the zoom lens (also known as the zoom cell)
Remove the motor assembly
Spin the zoom gear and make sure it is smooth.
*If there’s even the slightest mechanical hitch or drag, it will stall the zoom lens and needs to be replaced
