A zoom lens failure usually indicates an internal mechanical problem in the zoom cell since the zoom motor rarely fails:

  1. Check if the zoom motor attempts to spin during initialization.

  • If it attempts to spin
  1. Check the zoom lens (also known as the zoom cell).

  2. Remove the motor assembly.

  3. Spin the zoom gear and make sure it is smooth.
    *If there’s even the slightest mechanical hitch or drag, it will stall the zoom lens and needs to be replaced.

  • If it does not spin

There is no current delivered to the zoom motor and the following components should be tested/replaced: Logic Board, Zoom Breakout Board and cable between these two boards.
