This article presents a simple way of creating a screen recording of for example an InSpec program execution. This workflow can be applied to windows operating systems with the most recent updates and doesn’t require the installation of additional software.

A limitation of the demonstrated worflow is that only a single program window can be recorded. Switching to a different window like the taskmanager or file explorer is not supported and requires a different program.

This technique also requires a graphics card that supports one of the following:

  • Intel Quick Sync H.260

  • Nvidia NVENC

  • AMD VCE

Instructions

Use the windows integrated XBox Game Bar to record the screen of a program

  1. Select the program screen you want to record, i.e. InSpec

  2. Press Windows Key + ALT + R to start recording
the following control panel will be displayed in the top right corner of your screen

  3. Press the blue stop button to stop recording or use the same shortcut Windows Key + ALT + R
the following message will be displayed on the center right side of the screen

Clicking on this message opens the XBox Game Bar where you can open the file location of the video.
    The default location is C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\Videos\Captures

Editing

If you want to trim the video before sending it to the Micro-Vu support team, you can open the video with the windows standard video player “Movies & TV” and select “Trim” in the editing options on the lower right corner.

Uploading

Because of the size limit of email attachments, the best way of providing Micro-Vu Service Agents with the recording is by uploading it to the Micro-Vu Service Center.
