InSpec Fails Camera Initialization

These are common things that prevent InSpec or InSpec Classic from initializing the camera.

Minimum PC Requirements

When installing InSpec or InSpec Classic software ensure your computer fulfills the minimum specifications required to run InSpec or InSpec Classic.

Graphics Card

A graphics card from one of the supported GPU brands as well as a G3D Mark score of more than 1000 is required to run InSpec. More information about graphics card required can be found here:https://microvu.atlassian.net/l/cp/2k4mp4J6

Make sure InSpec is set to be used at the highest graphics performance in Windows Graphic Settings, by following these steps.

Step 1: Begin by pressing the windows key and searching, 'Graphics Settings'. Select 'Graphics Settings'.

Step 2: Click ‘Browse’ and select InSpec.exe. InSpec.exe by default is located in the Windows C drive/ProgramFiles/Micro-Vu/InSpec

Once InSpec.exe is selected it will be listed as shown in the following image:

Step 3: Click in ‘Options’ and select “High Performance'. This should set InSpec to use the high performance GPU.

Disable Energy Saver Settings

All energy saver setting should be disabled in the computer.

  • In the Windows menu search for Control Panel and double click on it.

  • Click on Hardware and Sound and choose Power Options.

  • Click on Change when the computer sleeps option from the left pane and choose Never from the drop down menu for both the options available there.

  • Click on Save changes.

Antivirus or Protection Software

When installing InSpec, make sure the Windows account has admin privileges.

Antivirus and protection software usually block the camera connection, this causes InSpec and InSpec Classic to fail the camera initialization.

Ensure there are no antivirus or protection software installed locally on the computer or through the company network. If the computer is connected to the network, disable the network connection then load InSpec or InSpec Classic.

USB 3 Connection is Required

Check if the machine cable is securely plugged into a valid USB 3.0 port on the computer. A valid USB 3.0 port should be identified by the blue insert or a SuperSpeed symbol, as illustrated below. Some PCs may have special “charging ports” indicated with a lightning bolt symbol, but using these ports for your machine is not recommended by Micro-Vu.
