Z axis Alignment

For the Vertex 251 - 312 and Excel 50X - 165X models.

  1. Turn the machine off and disengage the Z brake. If the Z-axis is aligned properly the axis would slide down in Z when the machine is off and no brake is engaged, the operator should support the axis.

  2. Push the stage using two hands to the top of the Z travel.

  3. Loosen the two top screws that hold the Z drive assembly to the Z bearing plate and let it fall back to the bottom of the travel.

  4. Retighten the top screws.

  5. Push the Z-axis up using two hands and carefully test if the Z-axis slides down the drive screw. If it does not slide, then the axis is still misaligned.

  6. If still misaligned, repeat step 1 and loosen the two back screws for the spacer between the Z drive assembly and the Z bearing plate.
