Align Rotary Axis (W) using Flat Surface

This article shows how to align a component which is held by a rotary like the RSD-60 horizontal. This technique is using two Z-measurements to rotate the axis such that the flat surface is parallel to the X-Y plane of the machine.

The following video shows the exact workflow:

Instructions

The following steps give a summary of the basic workflow

  1. create PCS system

  2. create first local system based on a focus point on the flat surface

    1. start with low magnification

    2. refine with high magnification

  3. create second local system based on a second focus point on the flat surface

    1. start with low magnification

    2. refine with high magnification

  4. rotate working plane so that the axis of rotation is normal to the plane

  5. create line from focus point one to focus point two

  6. calculate angle between line and X-Y plane

  7. create offset system by setting the resulting angle as the W-rotation

  8. rotate to zero angle which is horizontal
